This is the US New York that was built from the salvage of the World Trade Center. We saw it from a distance as you can see on our tour of the Norfolk naval yard. We had heard about and seen pictures of this ship, but it was very emotional to actually see it in person.


Fort McAllister State Historic Park in Georgia. The fort was the southernmost fortification in Savannah’s defense and made entirely of earthworks. Earthworks are made by weaving large baskets from the smaller tree branches of the trees cut to clear the area and then filled with dirt and piled as high and wide as wanted then the whole thing is covered with more dirt. Can you imagine all that work?


The stone bridge where the first shots of the Battle of Bull Run were fired. In a little over two years there were two battles in the area, the first one of the Civil War which lasted less than a day and the second lasted three days both Confederate victories.
